Volunteer mission work is a unique and spiritually rewarding experience. The Bible teaches us to care for those who are left at the fringes of society. Volunteering at Children of Zion is a unique opportunity to put your faith to work in a place of great need. Individual volunteers are needed for periods ranging from one month to one year. Arrival and departure dates are flexible through out the year. We also invite Volunteer Teams for two weeks and longer. |
Currently we are seeking a volunteer to be “Property Manager. This person will take charge of the maintenance of the buildings and grounds and supervise our outside employees.

No. We of course need these sorts of people but we also are always in need of matience and construction workers. Strong backs are always welcome!
The expense will depend on how long you plan to stay. Most volunteers can anticipate fundraising between $US 3000-4000. The biggest expense is the plane ticket which can range between $US 1500-2500 depending on the time of year you travel and what airline.
Once in country the exchange rate is rather favorable and any extra spending you do will probably not burn a hole in your pocket.
Most volunteers fundraise their expenses.
While traveling always entails a certain degree of risk Namibia is certainly one of the safer destinations in Africa. Namibia is not currently suffering from the civil striff that consumes many parts of the continent. While one should always be careful with their personal belonings as petty theft can be a problem in the larger cities violent crime is rare against visitors.
Namibia has two seasons; the wet one and the dry one. The wet season begins in November and ends in about March. During this time their will be a rainstorm almost everyday. The dry season is from April until about October. The middle part of this season the tempeture tends to cool making the daytime very pleasent and the evenings chilly.
Most volunteers fly from the United States to Johanesburg, South Africa either directly or through a European hub. From there they fly to Livingstone, Zambia and then drive three hours into Namibia. Flying to the Namibian capital of Windhoek is not recomeneded as it is a long 12 hour drive to Katima Mulilo.

Our volunteers come from many different backgrounds and bring their unique talents to the ministry.

Namibia is a southern African Nation bordering South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, and Angola. Namibia one its independence from South Africa and the apartheid government in 1990. It is currently the home to several ethnic groups including the Ovambo, Herero, Himba, Lozi, San (Bushmen), and Afrikanners. The children's home is stationed near Katima Mulilo on the edge of the Caprivi Strip. During the German colonial era the Caprivi Strip was given to Namibia for access to the Zambezi River. All of our kids come from this region and are of mostly San and Lozi ethnicity. While Namibia enjoys a political stability abscent in many other parts of Africa it still struggles with crushing poverty and the AIDS epidemic. These problemes are most evident on the Caprivi where most people live as subsitance farmers and herders. According to the Red Cross over 43% of Caprivians are infected with HIV/AIDS.
