Work with Purpose

Volunteer mission work is a unique and spiritually rewarding experience. The Bible teaches us to care for those who are left at the fringes of society. Volunteering at Children of Zion is a unique opportunity to put your faith to work in a place of great need.

Individual volunteers are needed for periods ranging from one month to one year. Arrival and departure dates are flexible throughout the year. We also invite Volunteer Teams for two weeks and longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?
You may contact our main office to have an application mailed to you. You may also click here to download an application.
Do you have to be a child care profesional to help?
No. We of course need these sorts of people but we also are always in need of maintenance and construction workers. Strong backs are always welcome!
How much does it cost?
The expense will depend on how long you plan to stay. Most volunteers can anticipate fundraising between $3500 - $4500 US. The biggest expense is the plane ticket which can range between $1600 - $2500 US, depending on the airline and time of year you travel.
Once in country the exchange rate is rather favorable and any extra spending you do will probably not burn a hole in your pocket.
Most volunteers fundraise their expenses.
Is Namibia safe?
While traveling always entails a certain degree of risk Namibia is certainly one of the safer destinations in Africa. Namibia is not currently suffering from the civil striff that consumes many parts of the continent. While one should always be careful with their personal belongings as petty theft can be a problem in the larger cities violent crime is rare against visitors.
What is the weather like?
Namibia has two seasons; the wet one and the dry one. The wet season begins in November and ends in about March. During this time there will be a rainstorm almost everyday. The dry season is from April until about October. In the middle part of this season the temperature tends to cool making the daytime very pleasant and the evenings chilly.
How do I get there?
Most volunteers fly from the United States to Johannesburg, South Africa either directly or through a European hub. From there they fly to Livingstone, Zambia where they will be picked up for the 3 hour drive into Namibia. Flying to the Namibian capital of Windhoek is not recommeneded as it is a long 12 hour drive to Katima Mulilo.
